We all like the idea of going off-grid until we see the price! Going off-grid requires a large system that will be able to generate and store enough power to cope with heavy use, even when it is cloudy, rainy or even dark.
If you are located remotely and unable to access electricity from the grid, then you have no option but to invest in an off-grid solar power system with off-grid storage supply.
It is always advisable to have a diesel generator as a back-up for off-grid systems, because if there is ever an issue with a component or unusually high usage or unusually low energy production (due to prolonged weather conditions), you will not be left in the dark (quite literally!).
If you do have access to the grid, it is always best to keep that access, even if you have a great solar system and battery storage – at least you have a reliable backup plan if your system fails or cannot meet your demand.
